Classism dates back to the 18th century. For centuries now, people have been pejorative about each other's occupations, financial situations, clothing, or family status. It's nothing new, but that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt when someone judges you for these things, or perceives you as being "below" them. There's no justification for this type of behavior, but regardless of if you're the one judging or the one being judged, it's best to just omit yourself from the situation. It's better to detach from people who don't serve you or have your best interests at heart.

It can be extra painful if the person slighting you is a loved one, or supposed to be. Deciding to marry someone says a lot. It's not just loving them, it's being so certain of them, trusting them, and knowing that you want to build your future with the person. In the story below, it centers around an engaged couple.

How can he have the audacity to exclude his wife's family from her own wedding? He really can't enforce it. If it's such a problem for him then I think he shouldn't be marrying this woman. They're clearly not compatible, and he should be with someone whose status is higher than hers.
