Coworkers can be our best friends or our worst enemies. We spend so many hours a day with them, and we don't always get along. I feel like my office is my second home, and I certainly see my coworkers far more often than I see anyone else, even my best friends. We see a different side of them since we're together for the whole day. It's almost like roommates, we see their good, their bad, their angsty, their tired, and their happiness during work functions that aren't supposed to adhere to work professionalism.

When they're your bestie, you guys can talk about endless things, and even introduce them to other friends in your life outside of work. You always have a partner in crime. When they're your enemy, it can ruin the ebb and flow, the harmony of the workplace. When there's tension between coworkers, humiliatingly everyone knows about it. Secrets of the workplace don't leave the workplace, but everyone will know about them.

In the story below, the protagonist has a coworker he's not particularly fond of. She continually makes fun of his car. So when she asks for a ride, he declines.

This woman is so stupid. Didn't anyone ever tell her, “don't bite the hand that feeds you”? Of course, it's entirely possible that she didn't expect to one day ask her coworker for a ride home. But I also believe in not burning bridges, because like the story reveals, you never know what you'll need from someone.

What do you guys think about the protagonist denying her a ride? Petty, or justified, or both? I'm not sure how I feel about it. If it were me, I would probably not give them a ride, but instead of saying it's because of the comments, I'd just make up something else.
