‘The dog is better behaved than she is’: New mom mooching off brother demands he get rid of his doggo for her comfort, he kicks her out in response

You know how the saying goes, friends: beggars can't be choosers. You can't inconvenience someone and then be picky about the way they help you - not only is it not polite, it's just silly. We were in a ruff place a few years ago, and we actually had to move in with our sister. She welcomed us with open arms, even though she lived in a tiny apartment and we slept in her "living room" which was also connected to the kitchen and entry way. We didn't complain. In fact, we did everything we could to make our burden on her lighter.

Well, not everyone thinks the way we do, appawrently. When one new mom moved in with her brother and her new baby, all she had were complaints about his "dirty" dog. She asked him to keep the dog locked in a room while the baby was out, which is ridiculous as golden retrievers are actually amazing with babies.     So, my sister (32F) just had a baby and needed a place to stay for a few months. I agreed because, you know, family. The only issue? I have a golden retriever, Max, who is my baby. He's well-groomed, trained, and literally the sweetest dog ever.

    I tried to compromise by keeping him out of the nursery, but that wasn't enough. She wanted me to keep him out of the house entirely. She even went as far as spraying disinfectant on my couch where he sleeps!

  • We get wanting to protect your child from anything that could be dangerous. However, some things are dangerous, and others are not. A hot stove is dangerous. A golden retriever is not. Simple as that.

    The final straw? I caught her Max away with her foot when he came near the baby's playmat. I lost it. I told her if she has such a problem with my "dirty" dog, she can find another place to stay. She freaked out, called me heartless for prioritizing

    Make sure none of them have your key, just in case they decide to do something to make your place more baby-friendly. Plus it's because there's growing evidence exposure to dogs is good for immunity.

  • Dogs make everyone's lives better - even babies! It's true, from what we've read, babies being around dogs actually helps strengthen their immune system. Can't argue with science (although it doesn't stop some people from trying)!

    celeigh87 11h ago I get keeping the dog out of the nursery and keeping a bit of distance between the dog and baby, but its your house. Its up to you as to whether or not the dog is in the house. She can find somewhere else to stay if she has a problem with it.
