One of the best parts of texting is getting to keep receipts of exactly what someone has said to you. If you are talking to someone on the phone, you might not have the foresight to record your conversations before something comes up that is worth documenting (That, or you live in a state where it's illegal to record a conversation without first getting both participants' consent.). But with texting, you're more likely to passively keep messages on your phone whether you think they're noteworthy or not. You can screenshot a scandalous text message and ruin somebody's life if you so choose, but if your friend calls you a name over the phone, it's your word against theirs. Of course, text screenshots can be fabricated, but the truth always comes out in the wash. If text messages can be subpoenaed in a court of law, then they can't all be phony.

    I'm living with my boyfriend parents right now because my parents won't let us live with them. The shower is broken at my boyfriend's parents house so I go to my parents to shower.     For context, his sister is a mental health professional who he's been speaking to for advice recently. I can only assume he's not telling her the full story, and he's taking whatever advice she gives him out of context and uses. them to justify not changing any of his toxic behavior.

    And for background, my mom divorced him after 20 years of manipulation and financial ab e, but he maintains that he's never done any wrong and we all just misunderstand him. This was just a particularly egregious snippet of a long discussion that essentially boiled down to several of us going low contact because his toxic tendencies make it impossible to have him in our lives, despite our best efforts.

    borderline screaming. Both me and my brother are Neurodivergent, so we were punished a lot for things we can't control at his house. At sixteen, I left their house for good due to co id and stayed permanently at my Mother's, who had primary custody of us to begin with. At nineteen I got my stuff back from their house. My brother who still sees them, keeps saying they've changed and this is proof to me that they haven't and I've made the right choice in remaining NC.
