How would you handle that situation if you were in it? I think the passive aggressive dialogue is something that just makes me utterly uncomfortable. I don't necessarily mind that he's outlandishly trying to get his revenge on them, but why the passive aggressive words? I would just pretend like I really needed to do it that early. Of course they're hypocrites for being upset at being woken up by their neighbor. If they can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Having neighbors in certain close quarters neighborhoods is almost like having a roommate. You have to live in the middle of nowhere in the woods to actually feel completely alone. Cities and suburbs are never going to give you that feeling of intimacy when you come home. You may even share walls with someone else in apartment buildings, or a courtyard. Needless to say, even if you live "alone," you can easily be disrupted by any other person or noise if you live anywhere in civilized society that isn't in the middle of nowhere in the woods.
Being considerate to neighbors is also a matter of perspective. It's on a spectrum, as long as you're in your home not hurting anyone, why should what you do matter? Some people don't feel the same though. And sure, no one likes waking up so early to the sound of screaming children, but that's what the protagonist in this story has to do.
