The protagonist has every right to not want her future sister-in-law wearing her sacred and precious late mother's wedding dress. This woman hasn't met the mother. Though she loves her husband, that's something entirely different than if she had a close relationship to her mother-in-law. It's also very sweet that she wants a connection with her, and to portray her memory, but at the same time it's not appropriate for the occasion to wear the dress. She can wear any other dress.

Entitled fiancée insists on wearing late MIL’s wedding dress, sister-in-law refuses to let her, causing family and BIL to turn on her: “You’re being unnecessarily difficult over just a dress”
Weddings aren't just about love, family, friends, and ceremonious traditions. These days, weddings are just a vehicle to further incite family drama, for going no contact, and to whip out a long lost grudge that everyone thought you forgot about. Just kidding, but weddings can sometimes show a side of someone you didn't know was there. Past the aesthetic of the bride and groom's "best day of their life," and the smiling faces, convivial atmosphere, and beautiful gowns, there's an air of rivalry, of competition, or of a power dynamic.
Outside of negative wedding dynamics, there's the matter of logistics. Of planning the wedding, food, flowers, the ring, and the dress. A woman's wedding dress is her centerpiece, it's a big deal for her to symbolize her purity and beauty all in one white gown, and it may even express sentimental values as well.
In the story below, the protagonist isn't the one getting married. However, she's inherited her late mother's wedding dress. Her brother is engaged, and out of nowhere, her future sister-in-law decides she wants to wear her late mother's wedding dress at her wedding.
