This is a really big ask. It would be one thing if the brother was asking if he alone could stay with the protagonist in his home, and that would still be a big ask. But asking if you, your wife, and your young children could indefinitely crash at your brother's home rent free when he already works from home everyday is just insane. Anyone would say no unless the person was a millionaire who had a mansion to fit everyone.
