This Guys Wants to Take Back a 700 Buck Sword He Bought for His Friend After His Friend Ghosts Him

  • WIBTA If I asked for a sword back?

"My family and I are now on a time out of sorts from the church bc we were a little naughty."
  • So Alan (fake name) and I have been friends since year 3. We are part of the same church, line a few blocks from each other and got
  • along like a house on fire, I was obnoxious and loud he was quiet and nervous so we kinda balanced each other out.
  • When we got to high school we drifted apart a bit bc I was often absent due to family related
  • matters but we were still good friends. We stayed at each other's houses borrowed each other's stuff etc etc.
  • By graduation we were back to relative normal and when we were working we kept in touch over text, our shifts were conflicting so we didn't hang out much.
  • shopping Enter the sword. I was out for antiques and I came across a store that sold very well made replicas of weapons and since we
  • are both into history I bought him a replica union cavalry sword. It was 700 bucks, so about a weeks wages but he was my mate so it didn't
  • bother me, I gave it to him that arvo and he thought it was awesome.
  • Cut to a few months ago and my family and I are now on a time out of sorts from the church bc we were a little naughty. Now during this
  • time members aren't meant to talk to us but when I bought my first car I was excited sent him a picture and
  • a few messages asking him what he thought. He read them and never responded. Ouch but whatever.
  • Now im considering not going back into the church bc of some stuff that's been building up and I remembered the sword. He still
  • hasn't responded. Not even to say that he can't talk to me and the it's me off so I kinda want it back bc it's a dope sword.
  • I might be TA bc I did give it to him as a gift and taking back a gift is kinda a thing to do. Also he's just following the church rules and
  • he has pretty religious parents so maybe they aren't letting him. He's 18 tho so I kinda thought he would sack up and talk to me.
  • TL;DR: WIBTA if I took back a sword I gave as a gift bc the friend ghosted me
  • Dalbro2001 OP Nope again :) And there was a few things, riding motorbikes, watching movies, not attending enough church. Originally it was just my parents but they included us in the 'time out' bc we wldnt leave our parents
  • Dalbro2001 OP We were doing stuff they deem innapropriate, like owning a boat or a motorcycle or a ps4
  • DragonbirdStank YTA if you try to take it back. The sword isn't yours, you gave it as a gift. Next time don't buy someone a $700 sword. Especially someone who is liable to shun you for religious reasons. PS, get out of whatever cult you belong to.
  • [deleted] Gonna preface this by saying you don't seem like a bad guy, and For the love of god run away from that cult and never look back! But yeah I think it's wrong to ask for the sword. back.
  • At this point it doesn't matter where your friend got the sword. It's his sword. You might as well ask, "WIBTA for asking my friend to give me his sword."
  • Shamanite_Meg YWBTA because that was a gift. You would sound very petty, too.
  • However, the most important stuff here is for you and your family to find a church that is not a fricking cult. What church gives "times out" and forbid its members to talk to outsiders???
