After 4 long years, the chonky cat this woman adopted finally shows her physical affection and demonstrates that patience pays off with fluffy felines: 'HE FINALLY SAT ON MY LAP AHHHH'

We have said it a million times, and we will say it a million more: you have to be patient with cats. We hate that people constantly think that cats are just aloof and uncaring. It's not true. Not even close to it. Cats love their humans so much. They do. They simply don't love everyone. Cats choose the people that they love and want to give affection to. Their affection must be earned, it's not given freely. And that should be okay. If it's okay when we do it, then it should be okay for them to do it as well.

But no, some people expect all cats to love them immediately, not understanding that sometimes, it takes a cat a while to show affection, let alone to show it the way that you want to see it. It can take a cat years to cuddle with their human for the first time. And that's sad, we know that it is. But just think about how ameowzing it is going to be when it finally happens.

  • This story just reinforces that: it is a matter of time. You have to be patient with cats, with some more than with others. They will show you love. Heck, this guy probably had a hundred other ways of showing love before this. You just have to look for the signs, learn how to read them.

    Educational Tangelo6 • 1d ago My girl likes to wait until you've picked her up, you've got the chin scritches really happening so there's plenty of drool to go around, then she either violently shakes her head or sneezes in your face. She's done it to me, my sister, and my nephew. I give warnings out now, too.

    Vroomy_vroom_vroom 1d ago My gf's cat of 5 years has never sat on her lap only asks for belly rubs. I however as allergic as I am get all the kisses and loves she can give. She also sit on my lap or over my shoulders every chance she gets. Yes, the gf glares daggers at the two of us at all times. Also the cat only does this with me and no one else.

    TsuDhoNimh2 • 1d ago It takes TIME ... our rescue decided that laps were acceptable after more than 10 years. She would be next to us on a chair and was OK with petting, but laps took her an extremely long time.

    mewmeulin • 1d ago HUGE moment!!!! it took my tuxie a couple years to get comfy enough to sit on my lap too i was told she was never gonna be a lap cat (and honestly i was just fine with that, i'm a very fidgety person) and now seven years in she INSISTS on having at least a half hour of lap time every morning

    OS2REXX • 1d ago That's awesome! I was working on convincing a neighborhood rescue (later to become the reigning Best Cat Ever) to live in my house. I had fed him for years, tried to make beds for the winter for him, &c.) One of the first visits he came in, jumped on my lap, curled up, and fell asleep for about 45 minutes.

    And was never in my lap again. My friends and I developed a theory that he was truly a feral cat but was given a pamphlet on "how to be a loving indoor cat" and read it, but didn't understand or didn't relate to it all.

    There were so many half baked habits he had - like the no-lap thing: another was that he'd obviously read that he was supposed to scratch after using the litter box, but he didn't read the bit about scratching IN the box to bury, so would scratch the walls, the floor outside the box, the mat under the cat box - anywhere but IN the actual cat- box.

    I cherish the lap memory because I just... Sat there for an hour- I was out of reach of any reading material. It was immensely funny, slightly uncomfortable, just like love itself. To be fair to him, he slept with me every night, curled up and sometimes snuggled deep into my chest. Glad you have the experience. I hope you have it again!
