Entitled Airbnb guest demands to park in neighbors private driveway, gets laughed at: 'Apparently, when you book an overpriced Airbnb, you also think you run the neighborhood.'

Airbnb has its ups and downs—lately a lot more downs than ups… But we won't get into the politics of that. Right now we are talking about the entitled people who sometimes end up at the Airbnb by your house. They don't care that you actually live next door full time, they still think that you are the bellhop of the block. Just because they're paying too much for a house near by for just the long weekend, they expect the entire town to treat them like their guest. Some tourist understand that they are visitors and know how to be respectful. But others think that the world revolves around them and that's that. It's bonkers that people like that actually exist in real life, but they do…

 

Take for instance this Airbnber who threw a tantrum at the neighbor because he wanted to use their driveway.

  • He didn't ask anything politely and he sure as heck didn't see the error of his ways, but he felt entitled this person's private driveway. Like, what? The homeowner is used to tourists being annoying like that since it is a popular beach town that gets many visitors during the summer. But he was even thrown off by the amount of this guy's entitlement. Of course he just laughed in his face, but Reddit commenters are suggesting he should've charged him or got him towed.

  • Maudegoblinn I also live in a quiet beach town, tourists like to use my backyard (right next to my back door and deck!) as their personal side walk/ access to the road. Constantly looking in my house and trying to play with my cat through the glass. I'm in my 30's but I feel like a grouchy old person constantly yelling at people to get off my lawn.

  • Affectionate-Sort526 lol that reminds me of my grandparents' old yard (they've since moved lol). their backyard was huge but at the very end of it there was a bikepath that was fairly busy, espec around labor day when a big festival happened in the area. ofc the bike path was public but my gma had several beautiful apple trees in her yard, which were definitely not public. they weren't even near the path, they were like 30-50 feet away next to the house!!

  • but the number of ppl my gpa had to chase off the lawn bc they decided they wanted some apples that day (and i don't just mean a single one to snack on, like ppl would come prepped with grocery bags or stuff them in their purses/strollers).. as a kid i would even go out there to do the chasing sometimes bc it was a no-guilt chance to yell at strangers ahahaha but yeah i feel you people are so ridiculous

  • MichigaCur Yep used to live in my aunts house which was conveniently located between two public beaches so traffic was almost inevitable... "it's a beach it's public in Michigan" nope you're only allowed to the high water mark which you're 40 yards past. smh. Never in my years of growing up did I think I'd have to explain to adults that, tables / chairs / grills / kayaks on a deck attached to a house, was not public property.. Repeatedly.

  • MerryTWatching It's not just beach towns. I live in a remote region popular with snowmobilers, and I used to tend bar here. The number of customers that sh-talked the very place that they traveled to, while demeaning the people waiting on them! One guy asked "Why do you live in a dump town like this?" I'd had enough that night, and told him "Because for most of the year, I'm hundreds of miles from people like you." The complete lack of a tip was totally worth it.

  • S9_noworries Years ago, we had an illegal Airbnb house next to our building and the different people who would stay there would habitually park in our buildings parking lot even if there was parking in front of the house. So we just started having their cars towed. They must have complained to the people they were booking with and it eventually stopped. We all figured the a_h_les running the illegal Airbnb were telling people they could just park in our lot and it was okay.

  • Fast forward and the illegal Airbnb has now turned into a closed bar because the entire street made life hl for them. They thought opening a bar was a better solution and using the entire street as their businesses valet parking was fine because they were running an overpriced bar. Well we all didn't have that same sentiment. It's nice when a community joins together to take out the trash.

  • Snowball-in-heck One of the few things my municipality did right in regards to short term rentals is putting it in the code that a unit for rent must have assigned parking spaces equal to the number of bedrooms. If there's not enough parking for the unit, they don't get the STO license.

  • cdsbigsby I also live in a big tourist area, though more hiking / caves than beach, and the tourists think that locals simply trying to exist and live their lives is 'locals being r de'. Like, I'm sorry I passed you in the passing lane going the speed limit when you were going 30mph under it. I'm sorry I honked at you when you were parked in the middle of the road, over a blind hill, because you wanted to take a picture of a rock.

  • Jarla Golden.. i live in a house without elevator.. had an airbnb tourist expecting me to carry his luggage to his flat. Well maybe he did it to recieve an original viennese experience of a grumpy local but i delivered for sure (the experience, not his luggage :D)

Why does he think u care that hes paying alot n shouldn't have to walk far.... Sounds more like a issue he should of discussed with the property owner... Of the place he's renting.
