Brother refuses to pick his sister up from the airport after she says that his old Honda Civic is too embarrassing to be seen in: 'She called our mom from the terminal crying because I stranded her in another city'

I am indebted to anyone who has ever picked me up from the airport. As someone who hasn't had my own car to drive in 5 whole years, I'm very dependent on public transit to get me everywhere I need to go in my city. In other cities without major public transit systems, I must rely on the kindness of strangers, friends, or family members to get me from the airport pickup line to my temporary living quarters. 

If you live in a smaller city like Columbus, Ohio, or Columbia, Missouri, picking up and dropping off people from the airport is as easy as pie. But if you're from Dallas, Atlanta, Charlotte, New York, Chicago, or anywhere with an extremely chaotic international airport, you know how big of an ask it is to request a ride from such a busy location. Anyone willing to pick you up is worth their weight in gold.

    so my sister flew in yesterday and asked if I could pick her up. I said sure, no problem. I drive a super old Honda Civic, it runs fine but yeah it's got dents, the A/C squeals a little, whatever. 10 minutes before her flight lands she texts me "can you park far? | don't want people thinking I'm getting in that embarrassing car."

    Satan_von_Kitty On top of that at the airport pretty much everyone is too focused on their own thing to really notice what car anyone else is getting into. Pick up cars aren't noticed for their quality only for their status of 'my ride or not my ride'.

    alexandravanessaaa NTA. If a car can get you from point A to B then it's a good car. She's just ignorant and entitled. If she wants a nice car then why hasn't she bought herself one? If she's so fit for a life of luxury, a $75 ride shouldn't be much.

    FlightlessRhino I picked up my niece from a movie theater when she was a teenager. She told me to park far and that she'd walk to me. I instead pulled right up to the curb with my windows down blasting Tejano music as loud as I could stand (we are white and don't speak a lick of Spanish). I was yelling her name over and over until she made the walk of shame to my car. She didn't demand that anymore.

    Legolinza "Don't bite the hand that feeds you" With that being said, yeah it was a move to strand someone in another city without even so much as a "I'm not coming to pick you up" It's one of those moments where you're the justified a_h_le. So as far as verdicts so, I'll say ESH (but unlike your sister, your assholery was fully justified)

    serentystorm Yeah. She definitely deserved to lose the ride from OP but didn't deserve to potentially be panicking that her sibling had gotten hurt or something (which is what I would assume if my sibling was supposed to pick me up and didn't show up and wasn't picking up their phone)
