My hair was straight as a pin until I became a pre-teen. As a Latin American kid growing up in the mid-2000s, I absolutely worshipped Shakira. Thus, I wanted to have a head of big, curly hair just like her. I remember when I discovered my first lock of curly hair just above the nape of my neck. I should've wished a lot harder, though, because I ended up with really temperamental wavy hair rather than actual curls. I spent a lot of my formative years treating it with heat to straighten it and likely destroying any chance of it ever looking truly healthy.

I started straightening my hair in middle school, which some would argue is a bit too early. However, there is really no debate as to whether or not 1.5 years old is too young to start heat-treating hair. However, this is exactly what the bridezilla in today's story demands that our protagonist put her daughter through just to fulfill her perfect vision of matching flower girls at her wedding.
