Owner of a bonded pair decides to suplex his extroverted cat mid-snuggle session, accidentally causing his introverted cat to begin a silent-cat revenge arc against his brother: 'This quiet little background character suddenly growls'

"[Today I messed up] by suplexing my cat and accidentally activating my other introverted cat’s final form."

So I have a cat. His name is Charlie. He's playful, energetic, chaotic, and honestly acts like a cracked-out tiger with commitment issues. He flops on my bed every night, belly up, paws in the air, looking all cuddly like he wants affection. I fall for it. I rub his belly. Then he bites me like I just insulted his ancestors. Every. Time.

So I started jokingly suplexing him onto the bed or the couch during our play sessions. And I mean gently I fully support his back, land him on soft surfaces, and only do it when he's clearly in play mode (like chasing lasers, attacking pillows, or initiating cat jiu-jitsu on me). It became kind of our thing. Weird bonding, but it works.

Now here's where I messed up. We have a second cat named Momo. He's the total opposite of Charlie-introverted, stoic, basically a loaf with legs. You could pick him up, flip him upside down, and he'd just blink like a sad philosopher. He never reacts to anything.

One day, Charlie and Momo were napping together on the couch. Everything was calm. I, being the fool I am, decided it would be funny to suplex Charlie mid-snuggle. He lands like a champ (as usual), but then Momo. Freaking. Snaps.

This quiet little background character suddenly growls menacingly (for the first time in his LIFE), jumps up, and starts beating the h I out of Charlie after he just watched his bld brother get folded. He chased Charlie down to the basement while I stood there wheezing and wondering what dark spirit I had awakened.

TLDR; TIFU by suplexing my cat and accidentally triggering a silent-cat revenge arc that might've been building for years.

swdna But why was Momo mad at Charlie and not you? After all, you were the one who disturbed their cuddle sesh.

SonalBoiiACC OP That's what I need help figuring out man! I mean I know Charlie is an instigator and the bro likes to ambush -guerilla style- playfight with Momo. Maybe Momo was tired of his sh and decided to pounce at him during his moment of weakness?

Sonal BoiiACC OP I mean he didn't attack and then chase me around the block so I'm assuming I'm chill with him. He saw Charlie getting folded like a lawn chair and decided it was the perfect moment for revenge for some reason.

halligan8 I've seen this before when I've immobilized one cat to give him meds or clip his nails. The other cat decides he's been given a rare opportunity to pounce on his brother.

Bluecat72 It's displaced (sometimes called redirected). aggression. Essentially what you did to Charlie made him very afraid, but he didn't think he could take you on so he vented on Charlie. It's a dangerous situation.

Sonal BoiiACC OP While I'm starting to learn that I should not be doing wrestling moves on my cat, especially in- front of other cats, I have to agree with you especially when it comes to the people. I work as a mechanic and I have a manager who DOES NOT know how to deal with stress... in a high stress environment. His first order of business when the workload gets rough is to start making it worse for everyone else. He'll start cussing and getting.

angry at small unrelated things and incidents. He'll start sporting the droopiest annoyed face I've ever seen and start dishing random tasks to the team until he sees something to contest and pick a fight with. Think Gordon Ramsay during service in Hell's Kitchen lol. Except it's not because the meat is raw but that his way is better

Outside-Raisin6671 This is called redirected aggression, you should look into it because it can permanently ruin a perfectly fine relationship between cats who have lived together peacefully.

SonalBoiiACC OP Thank you my friend. I've seen alot of comments to take it more seriously and I definitely will. I thought it was just some weird glitch but cats don't growl for no reason. Especially Momo. I'm going to start listening to their needs more. Thank you again!

rey_as_in_king you say you only ever do it during play and then contradict yourself immediately by saying they were napping just because a cat allows something doesn't mean it's a good thing to do to them anyway and I think it's pretty clear you know you weren't making great choices here

I'm sure you love your cats, but please read up on cat behavior and watch some Jackson Galaxy videos and stop "suplexing" your cat, you'll have a much better and stronger bond with them both and you will all be happier and healthier for it

SonalBoiiACC OP Totally fair to call this out. I probably oversold the "suplex"thing for comedy. Just to clarify, I don't actually body slam my cat like I'm trying to 1v1 him in Wrestlemania. It's more like gently flopping him onto a super soft bed during high- energy play. I always support his back, and he's 100% the instigator 90% of the time. The moment he's done or uninterested, I stop.

I do love my cats like family, and I appreciate the reminder to be mindful. Sometimes I get a little bit too excited I guess. I'll check out Jackson Galaxy too. Thanks for the honesty, no hard feelings!
