I live in a friendly neighborhood, and we've always done small favors for each other like lending out things to each other and even financial assistance. A neighbor approached me last

entitlement kicked me off when he drops this bombshell on me: Oh, and can you also cover gas? I don't have much left in my account."

I was a little taken aback because the car is mine, and I told him that I could let him borrow it, but gas would be on him, since he is the one to use the car.

He responds: "You're charging me for gas? I'm not using your car for fun, it's a favor! It's kind of bad to ask for gas money when you're already doing me a favor."

I tell him I have no issue with lending the car, but I am not responsible for his driving. He continues "so you can't just help out a neighbor."

I told him he is been so ungrateful and walked out of him.

LilCinBoise I would refuse to let him use it! What if he gets in an accident? Would you be responsible any damages?

Wheredotheflapsgo Just ask for the keys back. He can't even afford to put gas in it. Boot leather express is free?!!

MariaellaSpark OP I immediately called him ungrateful and took back the car. He said putting gas in a car he is borrowing to use is me "charging him".

Kathrynlena I would have asked why I should pay him when he's the one who needs the favor. If you're doing him a favor, he owes you, not the other way around. He should pay for the gas he uses and fill it up at the end as a thank you. I don't think this clown knows how favors or borrowing works.

PNL-Maine You should never loan your car to anyone. I get that you are friendly with neighbors and borrow things from each other, but this isn't a lawnmower, or a rake, or a cup of sugar. This is a very expensive

vehicle that you must carry auto insurance on in case of accidents, theft, injury, etc. Your neighbor is an ¿¿ for expecting you to pay for gas. I'm glad you took it back, please do not let him borrow it ever. Don't loan your car to anyone!

supershinythings I loaned a car to a family friend. The gas tank was maybe 1/4 when I loaned it; he was having a minor emergency and needed it ASAP.

When he returned it the tank was FULL. He also said a tie rod broke so he got the part and installed it himself. A very few people know how to treat loaner cars. Years later when he needed to borrow car again I had no problem loaning to him.

KadrinaOfficial Maybe it is just how I was raised, but I would 100% be returning that car with a full tank and cookies. Not demanding a full tank.
