Hey guys! Apparently this little dude has been on a roof near my co-worker for 5 days and couldn't get down. I'm going to be taking him to the vet tomorrow for a chip check, exam, and anything else he needs.
  • 03
In the meantime, I have him in our secondary bathroom with food and water and separated from my other cat! I totally thought I would be prepared for this day to come, but the little questions are making me concerned for his comfort!
  • 04
Do I leave the bathroom light on or off? Or get a little lamp? Should I put a fan in there? It's not any warmer than the rest of the apartment. Should I peak in every so often or leave them alone all night?

I'll be doing my due diligence and posting around on Facebook pages and even Reddit neighborhood pages but in the meantime I want him as comfortable as possible while also keeping my other cat safe! Any other tips or tricks would be appreciated!

Hi all! I wanted to give a post-vet update and try to bounce ideas to make him as comfortable as possible while looking for his home. HIS FACIAL EXPRESSIONS JUST KILL ME

So we've decided on the name Rufio for now and his vet visit went extremely well! This guy hisses from being nervous, but we were able to get a full exam done, 2 vaccines, and a blad test. Little guy looked grumpy being held, but with enough Churu's he took it all like a champ.

This smelly little guy is still really reclusive under my bathroom sink, but today he has accepted the cat bed as my offering to make him cozy. Out next steps is to make him feel comfortable with us coming in the room, taking treats, and maybe even poking his head out more.

Changes made since my last post: I put in a long blanket to go over my sink to give him an extra sense of protection, but I take it down when I enter the room so he can see my movements and see what I'm doing.

I added a night light, and soft music. The room is starting to get smelly (poor guy) so I'm turning on the bathroom fan in small bursts of time, but I know he's gonna need at least a waterless bath soon. That'll make him feel much better and I think it'll help the musty smell as he starts getting into a healthy diet. I

want to start doing some smell swapping with my current cat and him, but my husband wants to wait for the bath to happen since we did find fleas. We were able to get medication for both cats but we just want to be extra cautious.

Thank you for all of your input and advice from a few days ago, it's been immensely helpful and I can't wait to see him get more comfortable at home.

    • Kyrachey OP ⚫ 1d ago We were debating about Rufus, but when my husband said Rufio I had to go for it <3 anything to make sure that he creates a positive bond with him. And after he said it, I definitely agreed that it had a better ring to it.

KyraChey OP • 1d ago His expressions make my heart melt! Like it completely erases any nervousness of him hissing (which is really a quiet and almost sweet sound). He just wants to make sure we're slow around him, and so far it's never been a sign of lunging or aggression.

    • jeanb23 1d ago He's a good boy. Is he already fixed? I guess no microchip. He is so precious. I love that face. Glad he likes kitty crack (churu). You are doing so well with him.

KyraChey OP • 1d ago Yup, already neutered and no microchip. He did such a good job at the vet, we were all surprised because of his body condition we could tell he hasn't been taken care of in a long time.
