  • Hey Reddit, I've found a lot of great answers here before, so I figured I'd ask for some help now. I live in LA and met a girl ― things were fine in the beginning. We were dating, then
  • she started having housing issues, and I invited her to move in with me. I was renting a small place at the time, so I upgraded to a bigger apartment to make it work. She has a cat and a dog, which I happily accepted.
  • At first, everything was okay. But then I hit a rough patch with work and started grinding hard, prepping for interviews and trying to stay afloat. During all this time,
  • I was paying for everything - rent (almost $5K), food for both of us and the pets (~$2K), car lease, insurance... altogether around $8K/month. She does have a job, by the way, but never chipped in for anything. I figured I'd be a gentleman, maybe stupidly so.
  • In February, I asked her for some help. I was stressed out, my health started declining - and her response? "Maybe we should go on more walks." (Yes, because fresh air pays the bills.) Fast
  • forward a few months: I'm currently sleeping in my friend's spare room while she's still living in the apartment I pay for. Here's the kicker: when we moved in, I added her to the
  • lease to help her build rental history. Now, she's legally on it. When I told her I wanted to end the relationship and asked her to move out, she said "I'll stay as long as I need to."
  • To be honest, the breakup itself is another long story, but the core issue is: I was just a wallet in her life. She never bought groceries, never contributed, and got irritated whenever I asked for
  • help. I realized I was doing everything alone while she just coasted. So here's my question: I know I can't just kick her out legally. But
  • I'm sure some smart folks here have ideas for how to strongly suggest that it's time to move on all within legal boundaries, of course.
  • What can I do (legally) to get her to take some responsibility and move out? Open to any tips or ideas. Thanks in advance.
  • Effective_Spirit_126. Explain the situation to the landlord. Getting her off the lease is step one. Once that happens you can get her evicted. You will need to go through the process.
  • SomeCommon SensePlse Cancel utilities in your name and stop paying any share of anything in her name. Pay your half of the lease only. When she doesn't pay her half they'll kick her out. Don't pay for anything else. No food,
  • nothing for the pets. She's looking for a free ride, once she stops getting it she'll move on. Her being on the lease is in your favour it makes her responsible for her half of the cost.
  • Lurker_the_Pip ⚫ Get all your stuff out. Get off the lease. Quit paying. Block her on everything.
  • Simple. Forget about justice or revenge because she doesn't care.
  • Separate Major_937. Stop paying anything extra. You say you're crashing at a friend's place great start turn off the electric turn off the water. Everything in your name turn it off.
