I can't believe the woman's husband takes his mother's side. It's extremely disrespectful to give someone a gift and then point out their flaws. Wrinkles, weight, and cooking skills? It's all really really disrespectful and not okay. The husband should be telling his mom to back off, not encouraging her.

"This should help with those wrinkles you're getting": 27-year-old snaps at mother-in-law after she continually gives her gifts with an insult, husband takes mother's side
Welcome back people of the internet. Not everyone is gifted a mother-in-law that they like. In fact, MIL's have a stereotype of being controlling, domineering, and maybe a little too in love with their son. Mama's boys are everywhere, and if you find yourself married to one, just make sure he likes your cooking more than his mother's. The way to a man's heart is through his stomach, as they say.
Do you know where this stereotype about MIL's originated? It's actually ancient and esoteric, entangled in "mother" stereotypes in general. It all started in ancient Greece, with Aphrodite, the goddess of love, fertility, and beauty, and her handsome son Eros, or Cupid in Roman mythology. Although in Greek mythology he wasn't a baby, he retained the iconic magical arrow that withholds powers of meretricious love.
He accidently pokes himself with one of his arrows, and falls in love with non other than a mortal woman, the exact woman that Aphrodite wanted punished for her beauty, Psyche. Although the story below doesn't entail Greek mythology, it's a story for the ages. Read the full situation below.
