What was the best decade to grow up in? I grew up in the 2000s, and I thought it was great. Fashion was questionable, reality TV was at its peak, and I had free range on an early internet that still has Flash games. My Millennial aunt would probably argue that the 90s were better. Sure, she didn't have unrestricted internet access, but she spent her days watching grunge music videos on MTV, catching Dragon Ball Z episodes as they came out, and pining over Jonathan Taylor Thomas. 
Gen X went through all of that and more. That's why they know that the real best decade was the 80s. These 90s and 00s youngsters will quite literally never be able to understand the true freedom experienced by the Latchkey Generation. Biking all day after school until the streelamps lit up, drinking water straight out of the hose, and hearing "Billie Jean" for the first time on the radio are simply alien concepts to them.
