It's not even like he's really trying to parent them; it sounds like he was just trying to give his two cents over the children that live in his apartment. But she didn't even want that

32-year-old single mom refuses to let 35-year-old boyfriend parent her kids even though he pays for their rent and food, he agrees to back off if she starts covering her own kids' bills: "Obviously, she was angry"
What really is the difference between a roommate and a romantic partner that you live with? Sometimes, especially during heated arguments over whether or not its okay to leave dirty dishes in the sink overnight, the two seem almost like one in the same. However, the dynamics are vastly different. With a roommate, your independence, boundaries, finances, and personal space are more well-defined. With a partner whose life is intertwined with your own, the lines between these things can certainly blur, and you will both likely expect more from each other than just rent and dishes.
In our story today, a 35-year-old man expects to be able to give his girlfriend a bit of parenting advice over her children. Apparently, this crosses a line for her – even though she and her kids live in the apartment that he pays for on his own. In short, she wants half a partner – the half that pays for the bills and puts a roof over her head, but not the one that helps raise her kids.
