Money may be up there when it comes to common things that cause drama in families, but it doesn't have anything on property. A house in the family of nebulous ownership is all but guaranteed to start some arguments, not least when several different people are in need of a place to live. While the idea of being able to share a home between relatives can be nice in theory, most people are selfish. They don't want to compromise, even on something they are getting for free.

While it is important (within reason) that family supports family, this can get difficult when it comes to living arrangements in general. Some start to feel entitled to things they shouldn't, and others are forced to pay the price. Living with family members can also be difficult enough when you're growing up, let alone when you have adult responsibilities to attend to. There is a lot to consider.

    Sister won't let me move back in to our parents' house

  • Following a job loss, one man came face-to-face with this when his sister got upset at the prospect of him, his girlfriend, and their son moving into the house she lived in with her three-year-old, which was the former family home of their parents, where their father was still paying the mortgage. Having to get a worse-paying role than before, the man reasoned that it would be a sensible option to save money for a year.

    However, his sister was not happy and claimed that there was not enough space in the three-bedroom home. He felt she was being entitled, but he wanted a second opinion.

    I just lost my job and I, as many people basically live paycheck to paycheck.     LibraryMouse4321 If your dad owns the house, ask your dad if you can move in. It's not up to the sister if it's your dads house, unless your sister if renting it from him.

    rosytwinklepuddle Family homes should be safety nets. She's pulling the ladder up behind her and acting like she built the house herself. A lot of siblings think that just because they're the "first" to occupy a family property, they get to gatekeep it. That's not how ownership works.

    OrchidOne8324 I have to admit that I can see why it might bother her. Five people in a three-bedroom house is going to feel a lot more cramped than two people in a three-bedroom house. With that said, it sounds like it's not her house, so it's not her decision. She might have a right to object if she's paying rent... but it sounds like she's probably not.     BlueCrystalSnail I mean...no way would I wanna go from living with just my kid to living with my brother, his gf, and kid lol. Depending on the size of the house 5 ppl in a 3 bedroom sounds cramped to me. Not to mention she probably has the house set up how she likes, furnature and all that. But I have that luxury because I pay for my own housing and don't rely on the generosity of others. It's your father's house and your sister isn't paying to live there, so the decision is your father's.
