There is a wildfire where we live, and we had been evacuated for the past week. About an hour ago, I let my dog out to go potty, and when she didn't come back in, I went outside to see what she was doing. She had this little baby with her.

This precious kitten must have gotten displaced from the fire, and my dog has rescued it. We fed it and gave it some water, and it is now snuggled up in my dogs kennel...with my dog standing guard.

My dog has not left this baby's side since we brought it in over an hour ago. My husband asked my dog "is that your baby?"

PridofAnkh-Morpork Thank you for taking the kitten in. I hope you will keep us posted, I would love to see if the kitten really warms up to the dog!

ibeperplexed OP I will keep you posted for sure. If the last hour is any indication, my dog is completely in love with the kitten, and the kitten isn't afraid of the dog and actually cries if the dog moves from the kennel.

Blighted-Spire63 Your dog being the parent instead of you will be an interesting dynamic ③ But also probably so rewarding

ibeperplexed OP How true. I had picked up the kitten to give it snuggles and tell it that everything was gonna be ok and that this is a safe spot.....and my dog barked at me until I put it down. Hopefully I will be allowed to snuggle it tomorrow....its up to the dog.

ibeperplexed OP Very small. It makes me wonder what happened to its mother, and if there are any more kittens out there. We live out on 30 acres so I don't know where kitty came from. I told my husband I am gonna wander around tomorrow and see if there are any others nearby. Gonna take the dog along on this reconnaissance mission.

ibeperplexed OP Major update and a conundrum. We think we know how kitty wound up here. Neighbor A had a crop of kitties show up at her place earlier this week. No momma is sight. Neighbor B offered to pay to have the litter spayed or neutered in return for a barn cat or 2.

The DNR trucks have been parked at both neighbor A and neighbor B's homes this week, and at one point were staged at my home. My husband thinks that perhaps, this little one hitched a ride on one of the DNR trucks and wound up here for Skye to find. So.....does this kitty belong to Skye, or do I need to take it back to the neighbor A's home where its litter mates are?????

ibeperplexed OP • 16h ago Kitty has been sitting in my husbands lap for over an hour. Skye walked over to check kitty out and my husband said, "did you bring a cat home? Next time bring home a bag of money or a case of beer."

I wanted to take a picture, but my husband said "no". We all know he is not a cat fan, and he doesn't want that captured on film apparently. I am liking that kitty is sitting with him....the more kitty s ks up to him, the closer we get to keeping it. Smart kitty.
