wife and i bought a house with a pool. it was part of our search criteria. found a house with a pool. we loved everything about it. made offer. offer accepted. we move in. about two weeks after moving in, wife and daughters go to CA to visit family...we're in TX. i come home from work and i hear splashing and screaming....people and kids playing in a pool. didn't think anything of it because neighbors behind and to the right both have a pool i assumed it was one of them.

  • i wasn't expecting this many responses...thank you to all who replied. just to clarify, i do have a 6 foot tall wooden privacy fence with gates that have latches. the latches require an amount of force to open...i dd not have locks at the time, but i do now....along with no trespassing signs as well as a purple stripe painted on every 10th fence board. (purple paint law in TX. yes, it's a thing) one a side note: if the dad had come over and introduced himself i probably would have extended an in

  • Aviation_nut63 Put a lock on the gate, post no trespassing signs, and put up cameras. You need to CYA, in case they try to break in and get hurt.
  • ASERGIB OP did the right thing. If someone gets hurt or drowns in his pool, he is liable. Needs a locking fence around it.

  • Tequila Mockingbird80 The neighbor kids all had permission to ride atvs all over the land of the previous owner of our house - people are saying this is a bot story but it rings true to me - all the neighbors just assumed we would hold the status quo and let them tear up our woodland paths and infringe on our privacy on our back deck (that was completely private unless someone was riding. in our woods.). They were wrong but it took a minute and a lot of bs to get it to stop
  • Yakker65 That is an insurance nightmare. Put a lock on the gate, and stand your ground.
  • Useless890 I feel for you. I had the same thing when my mom and I got this house. The kid next door had permission from the previous owner to ride his bike in the yard and rollerskate in the drive. I had a heck of a time getting rid of him, but my mom couldn't work in the yard without him coming over. She was too hard of hearing to understand him and he wouldn't leave. She'd go in the house when the school bus came by in the afternoon. Finally got through to him.
