This family business began in a notebook, literally, when the mother-in-law launched a cleaning company in 2019 with the kind of recordkeeping system last seen in a lemonade stand. Enter her daughter-in-law, a business-and-finance-minded grown-up who took $200 a week to drag the enterprise into the 21st century. Contracts appeared. QuickBooks hummed. Invoices sent. Within a year, the company was pulling in $800,000 in services. The only thing scaling faster than revenue was the owner's personal spending, which treated the business account like a magic ATM that still somehow charged overdraft fees.
