One of the good things that has come out of humanism (a way of thinking that puts people, their values, and their potential at the center) is the understanding of how impawtant self-care is. Back in our parents' days, your own personal comfort and emotional state didn't matter that much. You had a bad day… so what? Keep going, you have things to do and people to provide for. They didn't understand how much mental health can affect your state of being, you were expected to behave as you were supposed to all the time. Needless to say, that led to a lot of problems in the home and workplace.

Now, we understand that it's impawtant to listen to your body and feelings. Doing this makes us better communicators and better people. We know how to tell people when we're feeling overwhelmed instead of just snapping at others because we're overstimulated. Similarly, we know when it's time for us to take a break and do some self-care so we don't burn out. We like to call this filling our emotional food bowl.

There are many ways to fill your emotional food bowl, like by getting a massage to destress or watching your favorite TV show for the millionth time. For now, we have no hooman children (hopefully that will change in the near future), but we do have some canine children that we absolutely treat like our biological kiddos. We have a monthly allowance for them to pick out a new toy, and we take them to the vet together, like taking our kid to the doctor's office. We would 100% get a caricature of them if we could take them to Disney Land.

Possums have a bad reputation, but that's mostly because people see them when they're frightened and they make all those scary faces. But when they're not scared, they're actually super cute.
