I'm visiting my in-laws in another European country and we went to the beach. It was not busy at all, we chose a spot and we set up our beach mat. Our 4 year old starts to do what 4 year olds do at the beach.

About 20mins in, a woman sets up super close to us, about 2 metres away. Its weird because the beach is very empty but whatever, we don't own the space.

Some time after that, she's sighing loudly, pointedly staring at us. She takes a call and is complaining on the phone about us (we speak English to each other but we know the local language). My 4 year old is too loud, the child gets too close to her, she's such a brat, we're so r de, these foreigners are ruining this place.

So we switch to the local language, and she's looking at us with shock and then she looks sullen. After some time, she moves further along the beach.

No idea why she chose to put herself in that situation, guess some people enjoy having a reason to complain.

dare978devil 30m ago . That's exactly it. Many people deliberately put themselves in a position where they will have a reason to complain. There is a medical term for it, it's called mymotherinlaw syndrome.

. CheshyreCat46 · 27m ago She thought you were tourists and wanted to intentionally ruin your day. Some people aren't happy unless they're making someone else miserable.

e17phil 33m ago It happens a lot that people sit next to others on the beach, and other places. No idea why, anyone know?

Waste-Job-3307 25m ago You're probably right. I've known people who seem to make it their life's mission to find something/someone to complain about every day.
