Pizza delivery person demands extra tip, tells customer their food is gone: 'I ordered a pizza, not drama'

These delivery workers are getting too comfortable with what they're writing to customers! 

There seems to be a common thing that happens with some delivery drivers where they spend a lot of time texting back and forth with their currently assigned customer. Maybe it's happened to you! You place an order on DoorDash or Instacart, and the delivery person messages you to introduce themselves, or say they're on their way. That's nice of them, but not totally necessary. Some of them get downright chatty, and will send long, long paragraphs. 

However, there's a certain kind of delivery driver who only has one thing in mind: getting a LOT of tips. These people really pester their customers. Some give sob stories, saying that they need the money for their families. Others will complain about the price of gas, or say that the order was too far away… basically trying to guilt the customer for placing the order in the first place. It's a shame that the drivers have to rely so heavily on tips, but it's just not appropriate to talk to customers like that. This person found that out firsthand when trying to Doordash a pizza. They soon learned that the driver wanted tips paid out through Cashapp… but honestly, the messages were so hard to read that if I was in the customer's shoes, I would've just ignored them entirely.

    Here's the text exchange — the dasher is in gray, the customer is blue. Even from the very start, the dasher's message is hard to read! The delivery person drops their Cash App handle in the chat, which seems like the kind of thing the DoorDash app would prohibit in their terms of service. Surely tips can only go through the app — it's so sketchy to insist that a customer send you money through another platform!

    That would be great but I don't have your pizza that person Renee picked it up I did not I drove all the way over here and I waited for the food but then they told me when I got up there someone else had already picked it up so I just sent my cash out just so you would know because it's time money gas everything so there's my cash app if you want you can write it down

    or something but they should be bringing your food if they don't then you need to call Dash because they already called the store and told them the food was gone which already know because I came to pick it up I want to let you know what was going on cuz you've already paid

    Commenters were just as confused. And this person's right --- it'd be way easier to just call the pizza place directly and have their own driver take it over.

    [deleted] Is it just me or is the entire tipping culture has gone insane? If I pick up food, I have to tip the person handing me the food? And food deliveries are dependent on the amount

    tipped, since I've heard stories of people not getting their food because the tip amount wasn't to the driver's satisfaction? This is pure insanity.

    rex_kreuzen I refuse to use any of these delivery apps. Do you really want to pay extra for cold food delivered by someone with no accountable connection to the restaurant?
