'Bro needs his mocha latte FAST': Job listing for personal assistant demands applicants can run 3-5 miles at 12 minutes per mile

It is common knowledge to anybody with even a little experience in the contemporary job market that many job listings contain a list of desired qualities that is almost impossible to fulfil, or seem to be completely ridiculous. Many an applicant has been put off by hiring managers claiming that an entry-level role requires five years of experience, or by an ad for a middling office job that asks for a master's degree and the knowledge of five different types of obscure software. 

Still, even the most jaded of job seekers can be surprised now and then by the strange and outlandish demands that are being made by employers. It could be argued that it offers a useful way to weed out places to apply to as they stake out their red flags early on, but at the same time, some of them are so unusual that they warrant a double take.

  • This was the case for one listing that was calling for applicants to an administrative assistant position, working with a CEO. The ad demanded that candidates be able to run a certain number of miles within a certain time for each mile. When the unorthodox request gained attention outside of the job board, people started to theorize on why the bullet point might be there. Perhaps one of the duties is accompanying the boss on an afternoon jog.
