Spent from 9am u til 2.30pm making, decorating and boxing 48 cupcakes for my sons birthday tomorrow for his new school, to be told as I collected him at 3.15pm that he cannot take them in, or any chocolate/sweets to share with his classmates

So after posting yesterday that my sons school wouldnt accept the cupcakes I baked for him ive just received a call from the school telling me they are going to give them out at the end of the day &

I took them into for the staff to have in the staff room, but they decided they were too good not to hand out, so he will get to share his cakes with his new classmates

Also - a lot of the comments on the original post seemed to assume I was American. Im in the UK.

We dont give cake or treats out during the school day - there is no disruption to the school day as the birthday child usually stands and the front of the line as the kids exit school and then the kids take one of whatever it is thats being offered on the way out to their parents.

I have been baking for schools for the last 9 years without issue. No it wasn't in a handbook. I got a welcome pack that just said no nuts in lunch boxes.
  • 08
Yes I individually boxed them, because they are sealed, and given out for children to take home with them.

No teachers dont have to do anything to help hand them out, monitor them eating them, dispose of packaging or anything. So there we are. Alls well that ends well I guess

International-Ad3035 OP No - i wasn't sure how many were needed so I over baked to bring the leftovers home They also all have different chocolate toppers so that the kids could choose I also had a stash of dairy free/gluten free chocolate bars for anyone who couldn't have a cake

TheHobbyWaitress Put a bunch in the teacher/assistant lounge. They'll be appreciated.

International-Ad3035 OP I just posted an update to this, I took them into the school for staff but they phoned me and they're going to give them to the kids

Hooray! A great update from this parent

International-Ad3035 OP Update: Ive just jad a call from the school after dropping them off for the staff room this morning - and they are giving them out to the kids at the end of the day. They said they're making an exception after seeing them so all in all, no wasted time - kids get cupcakes if they want one, and my son gets to share the experience with his classmates!

    Some people were such buzzk*lls

EdolfMusk₁ This post is mildly infuriating. We get it, you love your kid, but spending hours on individually boxed, gold-foil cupcakes for them to bring to school? Enough for two for each kid? How much did you spend on this? What are you trying to prove and to who? Some third graders? Their moms? This is the type of thing you do for a birthday party. Not something you force onto every kid. What if some parents don't like their kids eating junk? It's kind of giving pick me vibes.

International-Ad3035 OP Im not really sure where the gold foil comes from. They're dusted in edible glitter. I spent around £20 on 48 cupcakes. Including the packaging. Our grocery prices are no where near yours in America. Id have spent more making up gift bags that others have suggested as an alternative
