38-year-old boyfriend gets jealous of his 30-year-old girlfriend's two cats, he demands she rehome them and move in with him so he can be her only priority: 'I would never give up my cats'

Where do these men get the audacity to think that they are more impurrtant than our cats? Our cats have never stood us up on a date; they are great cuddlers, they know how to comfort us when we're feeling sad, and most of all, we trust them. We can't say the same about every guy we've ever met.

The first thing you should know about a cat purrson is that their cats will always be their furst priority, you either get in line or fall in love with the cats and make them your first priority as well. There is no third option.

But, just because it's easy to say, doesn't mean that it's easy to do. It's hard to stand up to someone when they constantly tell you you're wrong. That's why we think we should all give the woman in this post a round of appaws for standing up to her jealous boyfriend who wanted her to rehome her cats and move in with him so he would be her only priority. It sounds absurd, but some people are purrfectly absurd these days. She made the right choice and kicked him to the curb, and we couldn't be happier for her or her cute kitties.

    I am in need of advice on how to go on with all of this. First a bit of background. I (f30) used to be a single, happy cat owner for around 2 years before meeting my now current bf (m38).

    I met my current bf 3 months ago, not on any dating site but on a game we both play. He used to interact with me through DM and at first I thought nothing of it. It started quite normal and I thought we would get to become buddies but it somehow shifted.

    Two days ago we had a discussion about how he considered i move in with him. I have a really good paying job and own a house so that would be all gone if I did. He said I could just sell the house, quit my job and seek something near his area. One thing led to another and my cats became a theme.

  • There is a very simple solution for this man to get what he wants without pushing her away: if he accepted her cats and learned to love them as much as she did, then not only would he win her heart, but he wouldn't feel so threatened by the purresence of two cats. But instead, he chose to play “king of the castle” and demand she leave them behind.

    He suggested I give them away and concentrate more on him and his needs. Said that it was not normal for me to prioritize those animals over him. He does not want them to come with if possible and I should find a way to get rid of them.

    I told him I did not like the way he talked about any of that. Told him those cats were like my children and it was cruel of him to demand i abandon them. He only said that he wishes to be my first priority and not them. I told him I need some time alone.

  • You have to remember that they've only been together (and really known each other) for a matter of months. We're no relationship expurrt, but this sounds way too fast for us. We didn't move in with our partner for two years… three months is crazy talk!

    So, a small update to anyone interested. He wrote, and everything pretty much instantly escalated. I tried confronting and telling that the conversation from before hurt more than I expected and that I see it as if I need to choose

    either him or my cats. To that, he replied that he does not want any animal to be chosen over him. And that it is not healthy to put animals and humans as equals. But of course, that doesn't mean he does not like animals. And I am the first person to say that I find he does not.

    My argument doesn't make any sense, he said. And that i don't eat humans, but i eat animals? (I don't even understand what he is trying to say at this point.) The rest is still ongoing, but I just don't know if I have any more strength for any of this.

    I never considered selling the house. It has too much sentimental value since it is the last thing I still have of my parents, and he knows it. I would never give up my cats either. They are the only family I have left.

    There is no such thing as a support system on my end. It is only me and my cats. No extended family, no friends, no one to talk to. This is why I had to ask internet strangers for advice.

    Most of you said it would be the best thing to ghost/block him. Some of you said I should tell him it's over and block him. I don't want to try and discuss anymore with him because I know it will end really badly with him shifting everything I say again to make me look like I am the crazy one.

    So, to end this update, I will be ghosting/blocking him after wishing him good luck. I'm hoping it will end peacefully, but somewhere deep inside, i sincerely doubt it.
