HR gives employee ultimatum, forcing him to get a doctor's note that day, opts for malicious compliance: 'I gave YEARS of loyal service and they're going to get their karma very soon'

Giving years of your time, efforts, and energy to a company only to be given an ultimatum about your future there sounds about right these days.

We all want to think that we have job security or that the businesses where we work won't turn into one of those "toxic" ones we have all read about online. However, the truth of the matter is that most of these companies are already that problematic. Some of us simply have not been on the receiving end of that toxicity… yet.

This overworked employee was struggling at the company for months and had voiced his issues to management on numerous occasions. Eventually, his concerns were answered but not necessarily in the way that he had hoped. Instead of being given genuine support from human resources, they gave him two options: one involved leaving the company immediately, and the other involved going on d*sability, provided that the employee provide a doctor's note. However, there was a deadline to provide that note. The employee had to get in touch with their doctor that day. Otherwise, those benefits would not be provided. Talk about an unfair ask!

Thankfully, the employee was able to get in touch with his doctor between appointments. His doctor was well aware of the author's work struggles and agreed to write a doctor's note on his behalf. However, the doctor wasn't going to play Mr. Nice Guy to HR, and he wound up giving them a piece of his mind… so much so that HR proceeded to be extra gracious to the author moving forward. Must have been some doctor's note!
