AITA for leaving my inlaws christmas dinner after I found out that they didn't make accommodations for me? I got invited to my fiance's family christmas celebratory dinner. It's my first christmas with them. I have always been picky about what I eat. Can't help it and it has to do with psychological factors, childhood, and personal likes and dislikes. Before accepting their invite I let FMIL know that I wouldn't be eating the traditional food at their celebration, and showed her a variety of dis

Ginger @HandyGingerGal.2d Replying to @HandyGingerGal On a side note, this guy should call off the wedding and get out while he still can. This woman will do nothing but make him miserable.

Here we go again @stateracetami Replying to @HandyGingerGal My son has a picky eater g/f. They've been together for 1 yr. I try to accommodate but sometimes she won't even touch the food that I know she will eat. But, she will make him take her to InNOut after not eating our food. It's ride. So I told him I won't be catering to her anymore

Nick Labonté @allegedwriter Replying to @Handy GingerGal I'm a picky eater but I would *never* expect someone to "accommodate" something that's a preference.

Lucy R. Fisher @richmondie Replying to @HandyGingerGal It's really not difficult to cook a side order of macaroni cheese or whatever she likes. And they refused to even try.

AMOLITION Common Sense Comm... @CommandoSense2 Replying to @HandyGingerGal This person puts the onus on the hostess who has graciously invited her for dinner and is already preparing a huge meal for a large gathering. We've had this exact situation at our family gatherings and the person who has the issue always volunteers to bring their own dish.

Peter Van Ness @Peter Van Ness33 Replying to @HandyGingerGal I do all the cooking for my family. I will ask if anyone who's coming to dinner has dietary restriction, and I'll find a way to accommodate--usually within the cuisine I'm preparing. But don't send me recipes. I'm not your personal chef. Just tell me what you can't or won't eat.

Lu for Alaska @luinalaska I have zero tolerance for kids who don't want to eat what is served. Don't eat then. Don't announce your preference. Be hungry. Quietly. Raising your kids to demand accommodations for their preferences at shared or hosted meals is unfair to the planet.

Max @minordissent The most important skill you must instill in your child is a capacity to cooperate effectively with other humans. If you fail at this, you fail as a parent.

chaos robot @deestiv Maybe it's an unpopular opinion, but if I'm hosting a group of people for a meal I want to make sure there is at least one thing that each person can eat and enjoy so I don't care if I have to modify certain things or make something extra be it for allergies, pickiness, etc.

Bones @FrailSkeleton I admit to being an extremely picky kid whose loving mommy made me a separate meals with dividers on the plate so stuff wouldn't touch& the only thing that cured me was going on a teenage date& seeing the shocked look on his face as I ordered my...usual...

HomeMaker Megs @mrsmeganeverly Ok, so I am a natural observer. When I have friends/family over, I usually remember things I observed them eating in the past and cook them out of hospitality. It's good. to accommodate others as a host. That being said, I'd have shut this assuming brat down immediately

momsaidicould @erinbetame I've cooked holiday dinners. Asking someone to make one more dish when they already have to handle the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole, Mac and cheese, and pumpkin pie, that is a lot for one person. And then you want accommodations....

Daydreaming Holly @Annia_Lennox I am a picky eater and this is just entitlement. Also is it only my family where everyone brings a dish anyways? Normally the host does the main and maybe a side but paying for the whole thing?! Nope.
