Don't respect my legitimate medical needs? I guess you don't need someone on shift right now.
An injured employee went viral recently when they did what we all dream of on shift. After their manager belittled their recent surgery, which was to remove an enormous tumor on their bone, this employee called them out on it. Instead of rolling over and letting their manager walk all over them, they stood up for their at-work pains and protected their healing injury… By quitting on the spot.
According to many managers, employees are just a name on a schedule, a number on a page, and a body to wrangle on shift. While the majority of the workforce can be boiled down to a simple list of names, good managers recognize that their employee roster is more than just a list of names; it's a collection of humans with emotions, needs, and physical pains that may need to be addressed at work.
I've been lucky enough to have many good managers who view me as a human person, but not everyone is so lucky, which is why we all salute the worker in this next tale who put their needs first. Because it's so much more important to prioritize one's physical health than to "be a team player" during rush hour with coworkers you'd rather not see again.
