Aita for letting a homeless cat sleep on our porch?
-
A woman and her daughters spent years quietly helping a stray who wandered their Utah neighborhood. They fed him, sheltered him, and kept him alive through brutal winters. The husband, meanwhile, saw Greg as an unwelcome squatter. He tolerated the kindness up to a point, but when an upgraded cat shelter appeared on the porch, tempers boiled. What started as charity turned into a turf war about feelings, authority, and what counts as “ours.”

From the outside, it sounds less like a fight about a cat and more like a slow collision of personalities. She measures love by compassion, he measures stability by control. To her, it’s a soaked, limping animal in need of warmth. To him, it’s another symbol of being unheard in his own home. That mix of good intentions and quiet resentment builds into something both mundane and deeply human.

What makes it oddly funny is how ordinary the whole setup is. Every household has its version of Greg, the thing that tests patience and exposes the emotional plumbing underneath domestic life. It could be a cat, a hobby, or a thermostat setting, but it always ends the same way, both sides convinced they hold the moral high ground. Greg is just the unlucky mascot of a marriage where kindness has become a competition. The cat wins in the end, of course. They always do.
