All of these glorious, homemade costumes just warm the heart, huh? Sure, there's a ton of those classic 80s Halloween masks that were impossible to breath in, but rest assured, the rest of it was pure creativity made by loving moms and dads.

Phantasmic Family Photos That Capture the Spirit of Halloween in the 80s
Before Spirit Halloween took over every abandoned Blockbuster and before Amazon could deliver a ready-made Ghostbusters costume to your door overnight, Halloween was a totally different scene. Back in the 80s, it was all about creativity, resourcefulness, and last-minute chaos. Parents raided their closets, dug through craft draweres, and made Halloween magic out of whatever scraps they could find. Garbage bags became witch capes, cardboard boxes became robot armour, and tinfoil turned kids into astronauts.
Sure, there were store-bought options, but most kids ended up rocking some kind of DIY masterpiece that only vaguely resembled what it was supposed to be. Looking back at these old family photos now, it's hard to tell whether or not these costumes were actually spooky or if our modern sensibilities just make them a little creepier than they really were. Either way, take a stroll down memory lane to a time when a "last minute costume" meant scissors, safety pins, and tons of tape instead of overnight shipping.
