  • "The coworker who staged a 'team bonding' event to impress management"

About 4 months ago, one of my coworkers (let's call her Megan) started trying way too hard to get noticed by upper management.
  • She's not a bad worker, just... really into optics. The kind who loudly asks "Does anyone need help?" right as the boss walks by, but goes back to scrolling once they're gone.
  • Anyway, our company's been pushing for more "employee engagement," and Megan volunteered to organize a team- building event. Management gave
  • her a small budget, and she went all in, custom invites, matching shirts, the works. She booked this "outdoor adventure course"
  • A team building outdoor exercise in the forest.
  • about 45 minutes away and made attendance sound mandatory (even though it wasn't). Half the team reluctantly showed up on a Saturday morning. She
  • was running around with a clipboard like a summer camp counselor. Problem is, she didn't actually check the weather forecast, it poured all day. The
  • entire "adventure course" was shut down, and we just sat in a damp picnic shelter eating soggy sandwiches and trying not to slip in the mud.
  • She spent most of the time taking selfies and posting "What a GREAT turnout! #TeamSpirit" to LinkedIn.
  • Here's the kicker, when the department head saw the post, he thought it was genuinely successful and thanked her in the
  • next all-staff email. Now every month, she's "volunteered" to host another one. We're all quietly praying for rain again.
  • Two people running in the pouring rain.

  • Vintage_Winter 7h ago The sad truth is, people like her make it.

  • I just love the politics of work. Management doesn't care who actually works, they care about who makes their life easier and makes them look good.
