It's almost time to trick or treat, y'all. Have you bought your candy yet? Halloween as a parent is a whole new level of Halloween. You go from being a casual observer to knee-deep in the holiday. You're staying up all night sewing a costume because somehow you're determined to prove that you're a mom who sews homemade costumes. You're dealing with the effects of a Smarties-induced sugar rush in a kid who has face paint on that will definitely stain the carpet. You're arguing with them because they don't want to put on a puffy coat and ruin their costume even though it's below freezing and the fabric is as thin as a napkin. 

This is the trenches of Halloween as a parent. But you wouldn't have it any other way, because you're secretly a little bit glad that you're out of the phase of life that is all about roaming the crowded city streets on Halloween, fending off sloppy skeletons and over-served vampires. You're glad to be in an equally chaotic, but more wholesome phase of Halloween life.
