My boss insulted me in front of everyone and I accidentally said what I was thinking out loud.

I would be lying if I tell y'all that I am not nervous of what just happened.

It literally sent shivers down my spine and I'm just acting cool about it \crying\ So earlier at work, at the company- based one since I also have a remote one, We were in a team meeting, and my boss made a joke about how slow I was with my tasks.
  • 04
I rolled my eyes, muttered something like, "Maybe if you actually checked your own emails once in a while..." and oops!
  • 05
The room went quiet and that's when I realize that everyone heard it. I could even feel my heart pounding coz of how the silence linger the very room.
  • 06
Boss didn't look happy, coz who would be? but honestly? His so like jokes was more insulting on my part and publicly embarrassing people isn't leadership.
  • 07
After that, we took a break and my co- workers keep talking of how brave I was.
  • 08
I am not proud of it but their compliments are making me feel otherwise. It felt risky, but I'm done letting jokes be an excuse for disrespect.
  • 09
You don't get to belittle people and call it management.

Commenters agreed that this was a tough road to walk down/

isthisthebangswitch Meh, he got what he was aiming for, he just didn't want the joke to land on him. That job is toxic, sorry.

OP Albatross Many263 It is toxic. I could never deny
  • 13
LifeGoals Thigh High While some thoughts are best kept inside it can also be good to bring some of them to light, especially when it comes to team cohesion. My workplace knows I'm blunt and call things as they are and it's usually appreciated, which lands me on meetings far above my pay grade to bring attention to issues like that. Communication and procedural issues are not small matters.
  • 14
OP Albatross Many263 yes, but it's also risky, no? to voice out every complaints when you also needed that very job to survive coz it's not easy to look for a new one immediately
  • 15
sinzip With a-hole of a boss like that, even if you're polite, they will still going to get you canned or trying to get you to resign regardless. And maybe since they likes to "joke" like that, you can play it out as a joke either? And if it becomes an official HR related stuff when they tried to pin your performance for being slow, since you already said it, you may be able to say that you didn't get enough support from your boss due to their tardiness in answering emails
  • 16
OP Albatross Many263 Exactly. Some bosses just love to push people until they break, no matter how respectful you are.

TheViking1991 If you think it's going to cause shit for you anyway, just double down. Stand your ground and back up your statement with facts.

plsdontlewdlolis Toxic workplace. OP better start looking for a new job

Creepy-Vermicelli529 Normalize calling out the ineptitude of leadership. They have bosses too and they love belittling people, so you are now on the good side. Then, they'll like the cut of your jib and give you a rung of the ladder, where you can then destroy the system from the inside. Or get fired. It's 50/50.

waywardnowhere Your intrusive thoughts said out loud! Leave that toxic place, and good luck.

OneHumanPeolple The apologetic route sounds like this: "I'm sorry about the meeting. I realize you are managing and coordination more people than just me. I'll do my part to pick up the pace on my end of things." The fuck this guy route sounds like: "where's the lie? I can only drive as fast as the car in front of me. You're setting the pace."
