‘He was sued for stealing from the company’: Newbie security guard lies to his coworker, claiming their boss allows him to leave early, then tries to blame his coworker when he gets caught

Anyone brave enough to attempt time theft should also be brave enough to admit they've committed it in the first place, in case they're caught. Some folks have the gall to lie, but then fail to own up to them when push comes to shove.

Security guards serve an important purpose; They are the ones who protect property and people, typically around the clock. If an establishment is down one security guard, it is that much less protected. So, when a security guard commits time theft because his slacker ways get the best of him, it's completely normal to take the matter even more seriously than you would in other situations.

You'll find that in the story below, there is no deficit of karma served. A newbie security guard decides to tell his coworker that their boss is allowing him to leave early, repeatedly, even though this is not true. When another manager realizes what has been going on, they scold the coworker. Sorry, man, that's outside of their job description.     I was working a security job while finishing my degree. It was a easy job with a TON of downtime and my boss didn't care what we did, as long as we showed up and were at least cognizant of what was going on and replied to alarms.

    One day, we get a new hire and I could tell immediately that he wasn't going to last long.

    He would complain about how we had to check alarms, that he was "bored", etc... That and he asked me if our boss was always around.

    I told him "After 5PM, he leaves. Unless something drastic happens, I don't see him coming in." I thought nothing of it, that as soon as the last full time employee left, I started doing my homework once I finished all of my work and made sure that my rounds were completed, while eyeing the cameras and alarm.

    I digress. One day, the new guy and myself are at work and he goes "Hey, I talked to \our boss at the time\ and he said it was cool for me to leave." I said "Okay...thanks for letting me know." and he left.

I told the AM I had to use the bathroom, I let the new guy know "Dude, I don't know where you are, but \Account manager\ is looking through the keycard system and watching the cameras looking for you." Not even 30 second after I hit send, he called me in a panic.

    "Oh, my God. Uh, tell him I'm in the bathroom." I laughed and went "Uh, a reminder: he's rewinding the cameras and badge swipes to see what time you came and left." After the AM got what he wanted, he chastised me for not stopping him for leaving.

    Pi-Richard Wow. And he tried throwing you under the bus. I've worked at several nuclear power plants. Most of the doors open with your badge. So they knew if you entered a room. People would get fired for not entering a room that they should have (rounds, radiological surveys etc. ). It wasn't that hard. They didn't know how long you were in there. So at a minimum just enter and leave.
