I have one outdoor outlet on my porch. Nothing special. I live in a small duplex, and my neighbor (let's call him Greg, mid-30s, always in tank tops and flip-flops) apparently thinks it belongs to him.
  • It started a few months ago. He asked if he could plug in his e- bike charger. Cool, whatever. I said yes. Then he started using it for:
  • a portable speaker a mini fridge (??? in his carport?) a ring light (for his "TikTok lighting")

  • and the last straw a full extension cord running into his unit I unplugged everything after noticing my electric bill spiked by like $30 that month. I figured, fair is fair.
  • Greg comes over ten minutes later, visibly offended, and says: "You could've at least warned me before unplugging."
  • Warned you? About using my electricity without permission? Now he leaves passive- aggressive Post-its on the outlet: "Please respect shared resources."

  • No. It is NOT shared. It's mine. Literally my electricity. My porch. My outlet. Last week he even started wrapping his cords in neon tape so I "know it's his stuff" as if labeling stolen electricity makes it okay.
  • I'm seriously considering installing a lock or just putting a note that says: "Unauthorized use of this outlet will result in passive-aggressive yelling from your neighbor."
  • I don't even know what else to do. I can't exactly cut his power without causing a neighborhood scandal. But also, I refuse to keep paying for his mini fridge.

  • Traditional Metal1... .5h ago At this point you might as well shut off the breaker for that outlet even if it means losing all of the outlets in the room connected to that porch.
  • Random_Introvert... • 5h ago Wire an indoor (light) switch into the supply to the outlet. If you don't use it, turn it off. Problem solved.

  • Maybe start there. Explain that you do not give him permission to use the outlet any longer due to the costs and the fact he is not asking each time he wishes to use it and isnt offering to cover the spike in your electric bill.
  • Also give him this in writing and photocopy it to prove you have in fact made it clear he can not use it.

  • If he continues to use it after this conversation/letter, remove the socket and put a plain socket cover on. Or If the socket has its own breaker, turn it off and leave it off unless youre using it.
