AITA for refusing to kick my sister out the house?

Hey everyone. I'm 30M and married to my wife 29F. After my mom passed away 10 years ago, i took guardianship of my younger sister let's call her mya who's 18F.

  • 03
She's like my daughter, and i love her to d th, she's my baby. Once our mom d ed, everything went downhill.
  • 04
We ended up having to leave our apartment, and our dad wasn't in the picture either.
  • 05
It was just me and her, and we've been together through the thick and thin. I worked my ass off, just to keep us afloat.
  • 06
I'd work a day job at walmart, and at night i'd put her to sleep and then go deliver pizzas.
  • 07
It was rough, trying to take care of myself and my sister but i always made it work.
  • 08
Whenever i was able to have downtime, i'd take online community college classes in accounting so we could have a better life.
  • 09
I studied accounting, got my associates and then became an accounting clerk. Afterwards i was able to switch positions and landed a better paying role at $70K which changed our lives.
  • 10
I met my wife through a mutual friend, and we ended up getting married and we've been married for a few years now.
  • 11
My sister has now turned 18. In the morning when my little sister went to school, i'm at the kitchen table drinking my coffee.
  • 12
My wife comes up to me and says "babe, i want to talk to you about something important".
  • 13
I said "go for it". She said "Don't get mad at me, for saying this but is mya gonna leave the house now that she's 18?
  • 14
do you want me to kick her out?". I coughed for a second, because i was shocked.
  • 15
I told her to repeat what she said. She says "i mean she's 18 now you know, and it's like how long is she gonna stay with us?
  • 16
are you gonna kick her out or what or do i have to do it?". I then said "what the fuck?
  • 17
why would i kick out my own sister out of my house?". She said "I don't know!
  • 18
I mean i just thought that she can finally leave us alone you know, get her own place isn't she bit of a burden don't you think?".
  • 19
I told my wife "Look, i don't know how you feel about Mya. But the last time i checked, i'm the one who pays the bills around here not you.
  • 20
I'm the one who pays for you, the mortgage, the food, the insurance, the bills everything.
  • 21
I don't think you should be telling me who i kick out. As long as i'm alive, and i can provide mya can stay here as long as she wants.
  • 22
I don't care what you think, she's my sister. That thought never even struck my head, to kick my own baby out.".
  • 23
My wife then says "Jesus christ, you want to do everything for her, you want to pay for her college tuition, you want to pay for her shopping trips, you want to pay for her food she's a fucking burden on us can't you see?!".

  • 25
I told her "Yeah, when you start paying the bills here, then you can talk but for now, b t out".
  • 26
My wife then walked away. (Yes i was disrespectful here i apologize but i can't stand it if someone says anything against Mya) I always want to give my sister a better life then i had as a kid, and never want her to feel any void of anything.
  • 27
I'm going to be paying for college soon, once she starts, i've given her a car, money for anything she needs, and i'll be taking care of all her college expenses along with the scholarships she received as well.
  • 28
I don't want to kick my sister out at all and we live a comfortable life, my wife is a stay at home wife, she's never worked a job, didn't go to uni/college nothing.
  • 29
She just lived with her parents till we got married. AITA? EDIT: Everyone is asking me why doesn't my wife work.
  • 30
She never really wanted to work to be honest, my wife is indian-american. Her mom and dad were both wealthy and my wife just wanted to be a stay at home wife.
  • 31
Even my mother in law never worked, neither does any of the females in her family.
  • 32
I have tried telling my wife before, you know she should get some skills. Whether it's college, or certificates/or courses, something that way it ensures she can manage and take care of herself god forbid something happens.
  • 33
I'll pay for it. I told her she can work any job even if she doesn't want to get any skills.
  • 34
But she chooses not to, so it is what it is. I don't know if it's the culture for her, or whatever it may be.
  • 35
But i came to terms with that ages ago.
  • 36
gonzotek77 I find hard to believe you never saw any red flag.i would ask your sister, how your wife treats her when ur not home
  • 37
OP Defiant-Conflict-366 So actually my wife, and my sister get along quite well. Even when i'm not at home, they talk all the time, watch tv shows together they'll even go out together which i adored. which is why i'm a bit shocked this is coming now.

Bearliz NTA. My son was married to one like that. Someone took care of her her whole life. She said when the kids turn 18 they are out that same day. They divorced for that and her infidelity.
  • 39
Vixen TheoryIIII NTA. You're an amazing brother and it clearly shows you want the best for your sister. Your wife should learn how to accommodate her
  • 40
    OP Defiant-Conflict-366 thank you.
  • 41
One-Revolution-9670 NTA, but you sure married one.
  • 42
NotSorry2019 NTA. Time to boot the freeloading wife out before you have children with her. You married poorly.
