'He has the saddest little face': Person finds freezing creamsicle cat crying in the snow just days before Christmas, and despite knowing they couldn’t afford him, they carried him home out of the cold

Christmas time is one of the happiest of the whole year. Forget the lights and the sweaters and the presents. It's not even that. It's the fact that we get to see our cats enjoy Christmas just as much as we do. They live for this time. They live for the sparkly trees, they live for the warm blankets that are thrown everywhere. They're happy inside, but a lot of cats outside, especially right now when it's so cold, are not quite as happy. It's a good thing though that Christmas time also means that it's time for miracles, and today's story is definitely about one of those. 

This cat showed up freezing in this person's backyard. One more night, and he might not have survived out there on its own. The person who rescued the cat, kind as they are, knew that they didn't have the means to keep it. But the couldn't let the kitty freeze, not during Christmas time, and so, they rescued the cat and took it out of the cold and into a warm home.

    Hello everyone! This little man was crying on my porch this morning. Its set to hit -5F tonight... so I gave him some water and opened my door. He has the saddest little face... his back legs were all matted and frozen over because this Midwest winter is nuts so far lol

    He took to my offer kindly, and hes in my upstairs bathroom right now. Sleeping a ton. I did posts on social media hoping someone will claim him as theirs... but im doubtful. Im in a very rural area, so its likely hes no one's, really.

    Heres two issues: • I have no cat stuff! Need to improvise meals for him and a litter box. I have tons of cardboard lol. Any suggestions...? • I have a Shepsky. Shes got a gnarly prey drive, honestly. I dont have high hopes of socializing them... and if they dont take to one another, ill find a good home for him. But id like to try... anyone conquered this feat?

    Im not in the financial position for any of this, really. No presents under the tree kind of year lol. But I couldn't let him die in the cold. Theres also tons of Bald Eagles out here so I know this guy is easy pickings. Thanks everyone. Pictures of course for you all as well.

This cat, in the freezing cold, with its legs barely working, found the right human anyway - the one human who took him in, despite the difficulties. Whether you end up keeping him or not, you saved his life, and we are thankful for that.

    So... I guess home is here, with us, for now.. He scarfed down a bit of food and I made his bed more comfy. He started grooming himself after he ate, and now its quiet, so I think he is napping.

    I'm going to continue looking for his original owners. They have to be out there somewhere. III keep my eyes on local resources for flyers and posts. Safe to say, this was not on my bingo card. Life comes at you fast I guess

    P.S - Not even beginning to introduce dog to cat. Too much for me to tackle right now, but she's very aware there's a Being upstairs that Should Not Be. For now the core objective is to just keep him safe. Dog did smell his blanket, no weird reaction, just curious, it seemed. Im not convinced.

    Ill post an another update if we decide to keep him, or if he gets rehomed elsewhere (or, if the original owners are found!)... My husband came and said bye to him before he left for work "just in case hes gone before I get back" soooooo yeah. But for now, Reddit, rest easy. Cat is warm. Full belly. Safe.

    TLDR - No chip. He stays til another valid option is presented. Best option is not with me, really, as I can't afford vet care if/when he would need it. He still has his Puffs so... those at least need to be handled. *Name WIP as he doesnt have one

    Tons of scammers have tried their luck. No dice with me. A local 501c3 reached out to me. I vetted them pretty extensively. They've listed him as "Found." Owners have ~5 (now 4) days to come forward and claim him. They have a proper verification process for claiming, that frankly, I dont have the resources to continue doing.

    I will foster him until his forever home is found. I did a trial run of him being here with my usual daily schedule, and realistically I was only able to socialize with him about an hour (total) a day. Which isnt fair to him. Hes so social and loving and kind. He just wants to be around people. I really want to keep him, but thats selfish

  • We have a feeling though, that despite all the effort to get him adopted by someone else, you may just keep him. He seems purrfect for you. You will have the backing of the entire internet if you do. We would not let either you or him starve, that's a promise.
