  • "My manager just interviewed me for the job I'm already doing. From my desk."

  • I feel like my brain has short-circuited from the sheer absurdity of my day today. You guys are not going to believe this.
  • So, I've been on a temporary contract for about 4 months while they 'approve the budget' to hire me on full-time.
  • It's fine, whatever, I had some cash from a $6k crypto win, so I wasn't worried.
  • The funny part? They finally posted the job and scheduled me for an interview at 3 PM on Wednesday...
  • While I'm already sitting at my desk doing the job. I literally had to tell my manager, "Hey, about that 3 PM interview," and she just deadpanned, "Oh, right!
  • Just pop into the conference room at your scheduled time." So I went and interviewed for my own job, at my workplace, with the manager who watches me do said job 40 hours a week.
  • She asked me questions about a report I literally sent her an hour prior. The whole thing felt like an episode of The Office.
  • To top it all off, she ended with, "Alright, we have a few other candidates to see, and we'll be in touch." Like what?
  • I'm going to be back in this same chair at 9 AM tomorrow! Has anyone else dealt with this kind of corporate theater?
  • I'm convinced none of this is real Imao. Edit: well i guess this is normal to some companies especially with a temporary contract, but you know what is bullshit and just unreal that they ended the contract with me cause they found a better candidate than me, after four freaking months!!!I'm without a job right now and i don't know what to do, all i did was sending my cv to any one offering a job and reading some interview tips cause I guess the problem wasn't about how i did the job but about th

  • ryanlc If you're temporary/a contractor, this is rather typical I'm afraid. Many larger companies have hiring processes that they need to follow to find any position. And a permanent position is technically different from a contractor position. My company does this very frequently for such conversions. The basic idea is that the follow the process so that way an auditor can't claim undue favoritism/discrimination down the road. So they often have to open up the job posting for a period of time.
  • Killing-time-13 For "defensible" hiring, yes they will make you go through the interview process. Even if you are already "doing" the job. If your company accepts grants, especially from the federal government, then there are a whole other host of other hiring rules.
  • jparkhill yeah my workplace had some people from a temp agency for a couple of months to help us out. In that time they were there the job they were doing was posted 3 or 4 times- the people doing the job- could not pass the test and interview. Sometimes it is theatre- sometimes it is legit. We also had a temp supervisor (appointment because our previous supervisor got a job within the department that started right away). Our temp supervisor was doing really well-lost to another person. There ar
  • notreallylucy This is actually pretty common when dealing with contract jobs or temporary appointments. I work for the state. I was put in charge of doing the work for a newly created job. I was doing the job temporarily but I atl had to apply and interview for it. It was during Covid so I had to do a phone interview with my supervisor who was in another building about quarter Mike away. Theast question was something like "How do you know you'll be able to perform the required duties of the job?
  • Original_Flounder_18 That's how I was hired. I was 3 months in as a temp, mgr set up a new. We shit the shit and she asked if I wanted to work for the company and I said yes. It took a literal 6 more month for me to be on payroll, but I have been here since.
  • howcanibehuman Super corporate procedural process for purpose of creating a paper trail of records demonstrating compliance with a fair hiring process. It can feel dumb but it's honestly a benefit to showcase your realtime skills and build rapport with a manager.
