‘Coworker assumed I was pregnant,Im not even kidding’: colleague gifts baby items to someone not pregnant, claims a “glow” gave it away, and sparks an office-wide lesson in confidence without awareness

  • Coworker assumed I was pregnant

Two coworkers sit across from each other at a modern office desk, one speaking animatedly while the other listens with a composed, neutral expression, suggesting an awkward or uncomfortable workplace conversation.
  • Im not even kidding my coworker gave me a baby gift and I was so confused and then later in the day she asked how far along I was and I was so taken aback by that.
  • I asked why she thinks that and she said its cause she has 5 kids and can tell and it's cause "I have that glow to me" Im not even kidding she literally assumed before asking if I was.
  • I am NOT and it's literally impossible that I would be right now. And I get that she has 5 kids and thinks Im glowing but I keep thinking about it cause maybe she thought I was fat or getting fat and it got to me.
  • I am a healthy weight I recently went to the doctors and when I went to the doctors they said I was a healthy weight.
  • And I workout I do workout. I am trying to brush it off honestly. I am trying to tell myself its not because Im fat but maybe I am fat to her maybe.
  • A young woman sits at a desk looking confused while working on a laptop, hands raised in frustration, as an older female coworker stands beside her gesturing toward the screen in a bright home-office setting, suggesting a tense or awkward workplace interaction.
  • Weird asf its weird asf to go up to someone and not even ask if they are pregnant but give them a baby gift and ask how far along they are..
  • Like what.
  • kitkat1224666 Get a pet cat/dog and then show her pics of your new "child"
  • OP Love_Owl_0248 Great idea O
  • sgbg1904 This is the most elaborate "you've gotten fat" message ever.
  • OP Love_Owl_0248 Yeah but Im literally the same weight and confused and shocked cause Im the same weight like
  • sgbg1904 Your coworker is weird at best. Good luck.
  • OP Love_Owl_0248 Thank you I appreciate it. This is kinda wild and insane to me s.
  • Far-Cucumber2929 Ok you should have said "sorry you're mistaken I'm not pregnant" then given her the present back.
  • OP Love_Owl_0248 Yes I could have responded better I was caught off guard and embarrassed, so I didn't respond clearly in the moment. I wasn't dishonest I escaped the embarrassing awkward situation the best way I new how in the moment but III try to be try to be more direct about it next time even if it turns even more awkward or something.. but yeah I was honest but not as direct about it as I wanted to be..
  • Squiggally-umf Did you tell her you're not pregnant? If you did, what was her reaction? That will tell you her intention. If she's mortified and repeatedly apologising then she made a genuine albeit stupid mistake. If she brushes it off as no big deal or acts like she doesn't need to apologise then she's doing it to hurt you.
  • OP Love_Owl_0248 After I asked why she thought that I was like "well I haven't confirmed anything" to get out of the embarrassing situation she put me in cause it was embarrassing and then she said I should do that and I should "take a test" and I left it at that I know I dont need a test its wild insane honestly that after she thought I was she didnt ask but went straight to giving me a baby gift I dont need a baby gift likeeee..
  • not responsible You could view it as a compliment to your complexion; she could legitimately think your skin is glowing and for whatever reason believes that must mean you're pregnant. People are weird. Not everyone has bad intentions.
  • OP Love_Owl_0248 Yeah thats what I am trying to tell myself Im trying to not think she thought anything else like my weight my weight HHHH
  • Ok_Maintenance7716 She said the glow thing as a cover. She thinks you're fat.
  • OP Love_Owl_0248 Thats crazy. And giving me a whole baby gift is even more wild like the baby gift had me shook. Like baffled. And I'm 5'2 and about 124 lbs.
  • battymattmattymatt This is super weird but I wouldn't anything more into it than she was presumptuous and is a bit weird. I had a client (long standing but still) who, after a teams catch up, asked me what I was doing to make my skin glow and make my hair so nice. I was like 10 weeks? No one else had really noticed except my manager and her and they both have children. I was touched but I have a good relationship with her. But yeah you're valid to think it's weird.
  • Brilliant-Dress8351 Yes one time I saw a woman in line at a department store. I said when's the baby due? She said I had her 4 weeks ago. I was 16 and horrified. Lesson learned
  • YourNosey Neighbour Unless I see the baby literally coming out of you I would never assume someone is pregnant until they tell me.
