• This kind of reaction from the other family members just goes to show that everyone is culpable in some way here. Of course, the sister is guilty for being the center of attention, but their parents are also at fault here for letting these dynamics form in the way that they did. The fact that the author's schedule could not be respected, especially when that schedule was more convenient for everyone else in the family, says everything we need to know about where the parents' allegiances really lie here.

  There is an easy compromise to be made that was never even considered. If there was no universe in which the sisters could both be present but their parents were able to attend both dates, could they not have just organized two mini Christmas events? Sounds like that would have at least appeased some folks.
