In this story, a mom was outraged on her younger daughter's behalf after the 16-year-old agreed to babysit her 6-year-old cousin for her aunt. Her one stipulation is that she only wanted to do it until midnight, as she would be tired after working all day.
The aunt initially agreed with this, but when the time came, she informed her that she would not be home before 2 AM. The teenager felt like she had to stay awake even as her cousin fell asleep, as she did not want to be irresponsible.
When her mom heard about this, she confronted her sister about breaching their agreement. Her sister accused her of overreacting and escalated the confrontation into an argument. The mom felt she was within her rights to be angry, but wanted a second opinion.

Parents always have a duty towards anyone who looks after their kids for them.
Even if somebody only babysits for a couple of hours while they are sleeping, that is a big responsibility that is not to be taken lightly. Nobody wants something bad to happen to a child while they are the person who is tasked with caring for them.
As most parents know, reliable childcare is often hard to come by—especially if it happens to be last minute. It does not take a lot of effort to show some gratitude for those who are willing to babysit, and comply with their boundaries just as they should be complying with yours.
Unfortunately, there is an epidemic of entitled parents out there who think that just because they can find a babysitter, they can treat them however they want. This is often true when family members offer to watch their kids, as they feel like they have a right to demand free childcare from them.
Younger relatives in particular often get picked on for being just about old enough for the responsibility, but too young to complain when they are exploited. It can turn into a situation where somebody else has to stick up for them.
