This muscular boy is Walter. We met him about the same time as Sisu, who we adopted into the home about 9 months back. Walter was very distrustful of people but he would come by for

and that his name was Toby. We were devastated and furious that someone would abandon him. We stuck with Walter for the name.

After a few months he rubbed on my wife's leg and let her pet him (she happy cried). He's been very affectionate since. We have a cat-sized tent with thermal tarps and a rigid fabric canopy

covering the tent in our front yard for him to live in. He now lives in our yard full-time, minus when he's out patrolling. He got an infected paw from a fight so we brought him indoors long enough

for a house-call vet to come give him some antibiotics and vaccines. We want to bring him inside full-time, but can't until we have him cleared for FIV & FELV because we also have 3 cats already. But should we full-on

adopt him, we will still allow him outside when he wishes because he never wants to stay inside for too long in the 6 or 7 times we've brought him in (we temporarily lock up the other cats so he can enjoy his time).

Walter is best described as the "Sheriff round these parts". He doesn't usually go looking for fights (except with one particular stray cat. They have beef). He allows other strays into the yard

to fill their bellies or sun bathe and nap, but he doesn't allow any shenanigans. He will also wait for us when we leave and happily greet us when we return. The vet that saw him said he's about 10

years old, his thick cow-hide skin is covered in battle scars, but is otherwise in good health, especially since he started getting consistent wet food (with liquid cat vitamins mixed in) as often as he wants here.

It gets rather cold here in SE Idaho, so we also turned our unused detached garage into a cat shelter. Several beds, toys, food and water so they can stay out of the elements and stay warm.

He didn't trust us at first, but my wife's persistence paid off and now he knows he's loved, fed, and taken care of, even if he can't currently live inside with us. Little bastard had no one for 5 years until we moved here.
