I'll admit that it was very cute and entertaining at first, but at this point, oh my god. She jump scares me multiple times a day by slamming on keys, and wakes me up periodically with her bad music skills. Not to mention how jarring and unpleasant it is when I'm trying to watch a movie. Or awkward to explain when I'm on the phone.

Usually, she only plays them when getting on and off the piano, but sometimes she just hits them for fun, it seems like. There's no piano cover, nothing I've thought of that I can put on there that she won't knock off, and the aluminum foil thing doesn't work on her.

I don't mind that the piano is her favorite spot to lay, but how do I get her to use the empty space on the side of the keys, or jump up from the side entirely? Pushing in the stool did not work either.

Distinct-Presen... Do those keys really not have a cover that slides out and sits ontop of them? I've only really had experience with like 7 pianos from the 1800s but all of them had key lids, most would slide into the piano for storage and only 1 would slide out and was ment to be stored in the seat.

Just measure the area above the keys and get a piece of wood that size. Lid. EDIT: OP has posted a video showing there is in fact no lid. It was most likely not attached and as such was lost. They will probably try and DIY a lid later.

Solid-Childhood-4876 Have you considered lessons so cat can play a soothing chord?
  • 11
Unlucky_Equipment628 might not work, but a wood board with a hook attached to the other side would help it not get knocked off
  • 12
Naahime Buy a wooden plank, get it cut to the right size in store and put it on. Congrats, you just got yourself a piano cover. A wooden plank won't be expensive either so this is definitely a cost friendly option

Effective_Mixture525 The only solution is to get piano lessons for the cat

Norgaard93 Sing us a song, you're the piano cat Sing us a song tonight Well, we're all in the mood for a meowlody And you've got us not sleeping all night

Veratsss Unscrew the cover!! The cover has been secured with those two screws, one on each end of the wood strip next to the keys.

SleepyZM Solutions from best to worst 1. Get a piano cover (I see you're saying its an old one, I'm sure there are custom solutions out there but may be costly)
  • 17
    2. Sleep with cat in bedroom, but the fluff might just annoy you more in the bedroom 3. Put some kind of deterrent on the keys (aluminum foil, cat scat mat, or whatever your cat doesnt like) 4. Get him lessons

torquesteer You've tried nothing and you've ran out of ideas? Well consider this: they keys feel good to her feet and the sounds get your attention. So if there is absolutely no way of covering it up, might as well enjoy the music.

Fae_Sparrow I had an orange who liked the piano too! Whenever someone would play, he'd show up, start purring and didn't leave until the music stopped. Luckily we had a wooden lid to close the piano, so when he jumped on it, it wasn't noisy.
