Local legend 'Mama Cat' gets fired from Lowes by complaining Karen who hates fun, community bands together to rehire her after 5 years of purrfect service: 'The city has now declared February 2 as the city's Mama Cat Day'

If there's one thing that will bring a community together, it's the unjust firing of a local shop cat.

Shop cats make every shop better, it's a fact. If you don't agree with that statement, the door is that way. We, and most other cat lovers, will go out of our way to shop at a place where they take care of a cat, whether it's a bodega or a flower shop. It's a win-win scenario for everyone: the cat gets a safe place to call home, lots of treats and attention from awww-ing hoomans, and the shop gets free pest control and a loyal customer base of cat people. 

The best places will even make them official employees, getting them their own vest, identity card, and even a picture on the wall to secure their employed status. That's what happened in this Lowes, where 'Mama Cat' became a legend. She became very popular on social media and with the customers, even making a guest appearance on the local news. But, shortly after her rise to TV stardom, a Karen complained, Lowes corporate decided to have Mama Cat fired. 

Well, if there's one thing that feline fanatics won't stand for, it's injustice done to cats. Mama Cat did nothing wrong, and everyone clearly felt like this was the work of one ornery purrson, so they banded together to get the cat rehired. After five years of purrfect service, she deserved at least that. Mama Cat ended up being taken home by an employee, who had a special connection with Mama Cat. They said, "the cat slept like a baby on his couch and even cuddled up with his other cat". So, she may not have gotten rehired, but she's in a purrfectly comfortable retirement, which is honestly even better.

It's not always the bad things that make communities stronger, but sometimes, the happy ones. We're happy Mama Cat had a happy ending, and we hope she enjoys her pawsitively enjoyable time at home and gets just as many pets as before.

  • If you've ever had your cats be away for some reason (maybe they have to stay at the vet, or the cat is staying with a friend), you know how absent a house feels when your cat isn't there. It's one of the only times when we really understand how loud silence can be. It's crazy how such a small creature can fill a space with so much love!

    EDIT: I see we're getting real hung up on the use of the term Karen here, I will also add nobody other than Lowe's corporate would know if the person who complained was actually a male or female, I didn't use the term to spread female hate and sorry if it came off that way. It very well could have been a Ken or a Kevin or whatever the male equivalent of Karen is lol

    gaeths93 I work night shifts at Rona (lowes in quebec). We had a cat that stayed with us for around 2 years we loved him but sadly he fell from somewhere high in the store and broke one of his back paw. he ran away when that happened so we couldn't send him to the vet. He later came back but it was too late for his paw. He got operated to get it removed. Now he lives with a great family in a home with 3 paws.

    Ancient_Action741 I live in New York: Bodega cats are, along with the Knicks and a handful of agreed-upon restaurants, part of the thin line keeping the city from descending into total chaos. To me, every establishment should have a friendly and helpful cat keeping everybody cool.

  • Every establishment should have a friendly feline around! Imagine how many less strays there would be, and their visibility in the shops would give them a higher chance of getting adopted, purrmanently. It's a great idea!
