When work is ruff and you're running out of patience, remember who you're working for… your dogs.

If anyone ever tells you that getting dogs is a smart financial investment, don't believe them. They're a great investment when it comes to companionship, love, a happy home, enjoyable days outside in the sun, and everything else, but financially, not so much. It's not just the normal things, like their food, a bed (or three), and some treats. Oh no, it's much more than that. It's vet appointments, emergency vet appointments, insurance, a dog walker on work days, dog sitters when you go on vacation, and more "indestructible" toys than you could pawssibly count. Either our dogs have teeth of steel, or "indestructible" doesn't mean what it used to anymore.

But despite them controlling our bank accounts, we wouldn't have it any other way. Because what you get from them in return is worth more than money. You get to wake up to their sleepy faces on those lazy mornings, and on the energetic ones, wet kisses in your face combined with the thump-thump-thump of their excited tails hitting your bedside table. You get snuggles with them every evening as they fall asleep with a tiny piece of their tongue hanging out. You get a fuzzy friend who always wants to be by your side and share meals with you. You get true, unwavering companionship, and most importantly, unconditional love.

Some people may prefer money over such a thing, but not us. We wouldn't trade it for the world. Yes, even when they eat half of a chocolate cake that was in the kitchen and you have to rush them to the emergency vet. Even when it's 11 PM and you just want to curl up in bed, but you have to take them out for one last potty break. Even when you can't take that spontaneous trip because you can't find a dog sitter. It's all worth it for the 12+ years of happiness and memories you get with your best friend.
