Client buys wedding photographer's domain after they refuse to provide the wedding photos and ignore them for months, uses it as last-attempt leverage: ‘They have one week to respond’

  • Professional wedding photographer takes pictures of the bride and groom in garden, the photographer in action with two cameras on a shoulder straps.
  • Wedding photographer ghosted us after wedding. 6 months of no contact. I bought their domain.

Not as straightforward as the title suggests. It was a friend of 8 years who shot our wedding, so no contract unfortunately (I know I know).
  • We paid them in full before the wedding and were given an estimate of 12 weeks.
  • It's been way past that, we tried reaching out multiple times giving ample time to respond between communications.
  • No response from them as of this morning. I checked their instagram and turns out their domain was available so I just bought without thinking (they can't see I own it cause of privacy settings) I'm so mad at the situation that even after 7 months after the wedding, we haven't one word about the photos.
  • They're alive and doing fine, I can see their online activity on instagram pretty much every day.
  • They have one week to respond to us, if they don't, they'll receive legal communication from our lawyers next.
  • Hoping it won't come to that.

  • Neither-Investment95 Go to court. If you had any conversations before the wedding via text or email, that can be used as evidence. You had an agreement that they would provide a service for money and they have not done so. Even without an official contract, that is still enough to go on for you to either get the photos or get your money back.
  • Beneficial-Control22 Original Poster's Reply That's the plan now. Saved all screenshots, emails, receipts
  • DotAffectionate87 They lost/deleted or fucked up the pics and just dont know how to approach you?...Is my guess
  • Beneficial-Control22 Original Poster's Reply I think so too. I have no idea. At this point, it's more about answers than photos tbh.
  • robynxcakes Have you been messaging them? Do they have a professional instagram or such you can leave comments on?
  • Beneficial-Control22 Original Poster's Reply Yeah they've ignored every message/email I've sent them
  • AndrewSP1832 I get that. Accidents happen to everyone, but accountability is the difference between making a mistake and being an ahole.
  • Beneficial-Control22 Original Poster's Reply Yeah they're an amateur masquerading as a professional
  • PantherThing Make the worlds worst wedding photos on ai and populate the website with them
  • Beneficial-Control22 Original Poster's Reply lol that's good. I was thinking of putting "Hello, I'm a photographer based in XYZ. I specialize in taking your money and ghosting you."
  • Jessi_L_1324 Take them to court and get your money back. You paid for a service/product and have not received it. If you have proof that you have continuously contacted them over this period of time asking for your photos with zero response to any of your inquiries, a judge would be definitely rule in your favor. Collecting on that judgment might be a different story, but you can always request the court to put a lien on property they own like a house or a car.
  • Beneficial-Control22 Original Poster's Reply Honestly I just want the photos. Let's see if that's possible.
  • arayabe What are you planning to do with the domain? They can always add a "the" before, or "pro" or something to another domain if they ever build a website. Another person totally would create a blank warning page parked in said domain telling people not to hire their services, at least not without a contract
  • Beneficial-Control22 Original Poster's Reply So I'm kinda petty like that and bought 10 additional domains that are very common in the business. It would be a shame if these 10 websites popped up redirecting to a giant warning label
  • Embarrassed_Roll_728 Hopefully this may give you some hope. My brother does profession photography for major brands. He helped a friend and did his wedding for free. Our mom literally had to stand behind this grown ass adult and make him complete the photo and album because it had been 12 months. So they got their album, just horribly late.
